CBD Oil on Amazon? There’s No Such Thing

After learning about CBD oil and its effectiveness in treating medical conditions, the first thing most people do is head over to Amazon. However, if you search “CBD oil” on Amazon, you will only see products like hemp oil or hemp extract but, alas, no CBD oil.

Amazon Doesn’t Sell CBD Oil

According to Amazon’s policy on what can be sold through its platform, products must comply with all laws and regulations, and supplements may not contain controlled substances.

Amazon’s policy defines controlled substances as “drugs that are illegal, such as cocaine or heroin.” Products used with controlled substances may be considered drug paraphernalia … Drug listings must not be for controlled substances or products containing controlled substances, such as products containing cannabidiol (CBD), a Schedule I Controlled Substance.”

CBD Oil and THC

Cannabis Sativa is the genus of marijuana, a federally illegal Schedule I controlled substance. The cannabis plant is also a genus of hemp, which is non-psychoactive and used in the production of cannabidiol.

The marijuana version of the plant contains high levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a psychoactive cannabinoid that reacts with receptors in the brain to trigger euphoria and that resulted in the prohibition of the plant in 1937.

The hemp version of the plant contains CBD and other cannabinoids that are not psychoactive and can have several health benefits. Even though CBD oils only have trace amounts of THC, it is also prohibited by Amazon along with marijuana.

Why Doesn’t Amazon Sell CBD Oil?

If CBD is not psychoactive and if the THC levels are low enough to be legal, why doesn’t Amazon allow the sale of CBD oil through its platform?

Amazon added products derived from the Cannabis Sativa plant to its list of banned products that can’t be sold on its site. The reason for this is that it doesn’t want to run the risk of breaking federal laws.

To date, the FDA only approved one CBD product for the treatment of epilepsy. All other CBD products are still unregulated, and Amazon doesn’t want to be in control of the sale and shipping of illegal substances.

There are Hemp Oils on Amazon

If you search for hemp extract, hemp oil, or hemp oil extract on Amazon, you will see hundreds of products that may contain cannabinoids. Sellers don’t always disclose that there are CBD in their hemp oils, and Amazon doesn’t have the means to test every single product that moves through their fulfillment centers.

However, just because you can purchase CBD under the moniker of hemp oil, it is not necessarily a good idea to do so. There is no regulation, so you are not guaranteed to purchase a product that is rich in cannabidiol.

Additionally, even if there are high levels of CBD in the oil, you are not guaranteed to receive a high-quality product. Since these products are typically expensive, you may end up wasting your money.

Hemp seed oil usually contains no CBD as there are no cannabinoids in the seed of a hemp plant. If you are looking for an oil that is rich in healthy fatty acids, micronutrients, and proteins, however, you can go ahead and buy hemp seed oil.

Where to Find CBD

If you are looking for a high-quality CBD product, select a reputable company that is transparent about their ingredients, and that extracts oil from the entire hemp plant – not only the seeds. We recommend you buy CBD oil from Royal CBD, a provider of pure CBD oil, not hempseed oil.

You should also only stick to products that classified as broad-spectrum hemp oil with zero THC as these products are compliant with federal law and the Farm Bill.
